Laptops Do Not Bring Happiness to BMS

Would you like to hear about your, or your child's, school buying thousands of dollars worth of something they already have? In these tough economic times you would rather the school spend money on something more important. One negative of having a laptop is the danger of it getting damaged. It could also cause kids to not do their work. Lastly, it would cost a lot of money. Laptop computers should not be provided to every student at BMS.

Your laptop computer could easily be damaged. You could be walking home from school and it could start raining and your laptop would fry. If you have little siblings then you have the chance of it getting damaged by them. Also, if you don't have firewall and other virus protection you could get a virus and lose all your work. Those are some ways your laptop could be damaged.

There are many reasons why a teenager would not do their homework. Maybe some kids wouldn't bring it home because of the weight, so their work wouldn't be done. Also, almost every kid has a Myspace or Facebook, so they'd more than likely be on there, or another site. Plus, with so much on the Internet you could easily look up the answers, which would not make you any smarter. There are more, but those were three of the reasons work would not be done.

Lastly, owning or just using, a laptop costs a lot of money. Paying for Wi/Fi if you only use it one year is a waste. We also already have computers at school, so what's the point of having more? Some people already have computers at home, so why they should get laptops is beyond me. Obviously, getting laptops is a lot of money which is another reason we should not get them.

In conclusion, we should not provide laptop computers to the students of BMS. As I pointed out, there are many ways the devices could get damaged. With Internet consisting of so many things, kids are unlikely to do their work. Lastly, the cost is just too high. So, would you rather they use the money for important things, or something they already have?
